مصرف گلوتن هیچ ارتباطی با بیماری‏های قلبی ندارد

بر اساس مطالع ه‏ای که در نشریه مجازی The BMJ چاپ شده است، استفاده از رژیم‏ های بدون گلوتن نباید در بین افرادی که به آن حساسیتی ندارند، رواج داده شود. استفاده بلند مدت از گلوتن ارتباطی با بروز بیماری‏ های قلبی ندارد و کاهش مصرف گلوتن در بین افرادی که به آن حساسیت ندارند، مصرف غلات کامل را کاهش می‏دهد.
گلوتن پروتئینی است که در گندم، چاودار و جو وجود دارد. گلوتن باعث ورم روده و مشکلات گوارشی برای افرادی می‏شود که به آن حساسیت دارند.
در مطالعه انجام شده، ۷۱۴/۶۴ زن و ۳۰۳/۴۵ مرد که هیچگونه سابقه بیماری‏های قلبی نداشتند، شرکت کردند. این گروه از سال ۱۹۸۶ تا سال ۲۰۱۰ در بازه‏ های ۴ ساله پرسشنام ه‏ای را درباره مواد غذایی مصرفی پر کردند. این افراد بر اساس میزان گلوتن مصرفی، به ۵ گروه تقسیم شدند. در طول ۲۶ سالی که این مطالعه در حال انجام بود، ۲۴۳۱ زن و ۴۰۹۸ مرد مبتلا به بیماری‏ های قلبی شدند. افرادی که کمترین میزان گلوتن را مصرف می‏ کردند نسبت به افراد گروهی که بیشترین میزان مصرف گلوتن را داشتند، بیشتر به بیماری‏ های قلبی مبتلا شدند. در واقع مصرف گلوتن ارتباط مستقیمی با مصرف غلات کامل و در نتیجه بیماری‏ های قلبی کمتر دارد
